PROHIBITED & RESTRICTED PRODUCTS

Save time and money by understanding the difference between "prohibited products" and "restricted products."

Prohibited vs. Restricted Products

While these terms may sound similar, they have different meanings and implications. Prohibited products cannot be imported under any circumstances because they are dangerous, illegal, or pose health, safety, or environmental risks. On the other hand, restricted products are not completely banned but must comply with additional regulations to be imported. These products are subject to stricter inspections and may require special packaging, permits, or other additional documentation.

What are Restricted Products?

Restricted products are items considered dangerous for air transport that need special handling and packaging, or they are goods restricted by customs that require special permits to enter the country. Both can be transported if they meet additional regulations and are subject to stricter inspections.

  • Aeropost does not process or manage permits for products requiring them; this must be done by the consignee of the shipment.
  • For shipments requiring a permit, the customer is responsible for sending Aeropost the document to process the corresponding nationalization.
  • The customer has 30 calendar days from the arrival of the shipment to provide the corresponding permit to customs; otherwise, customs will apply additional charges for fiscal storage.
  • If the requested permit is not provided within 60 calendar days, the shipment will be declared "abandoned" according to customs processes.
